I head down to our nation’s capital later this week for the annual SEC Government-Business Forum on Small Business Capital Formation, which the Commission has gathered since 1982 when Congress mandated it take place. We listen to SEC Commissioners and interesting panelists and then break into workshops to develop recommendations for the staff and Commissioners. The event is typically opened by the SEC Chairman. We hope to hear from Ms. Schapiro. I’m sure we’ll also be hearing some updates on the various rulemakings under the Jumpstart our Business Startups (JOBS) Act as well.
The event provides a nice opportunity to say hello to SEC staffers who are key to dealing with small business issues, and maybe even buttonhole a Commissioner or senior staffer to check in. And while many recommendations seem to repeat themselves from year to year, every once in awhile the staff does get the opportunity to develop actual rule proposals based on the ideas that come out of the Forum.
It’s also one of those rare helpful conferences we go to that is absolutely free! You can also attend by webinar, go to http://www.sec.gov/info/smallbus/sbforum.shtml for more information. Hope to see you there!
